Police Investigation Reform Committee to Hold Eighth Meeting Today; Staffing and Case-Processing Times on Agenda

[Financial News] The Police Investigation Reform Committee will discuss appropriate investigative staffing levels, case-processing times and measures to strengthen investigation oversight.
The Police Investigation Reform Committee said it will hold its eighth meeting at 2 p.m. on the 14th at the National Office of Investigation.
The meeting will continue discussions on strengthening police investigative capabilities and oversight. In particular, follow-up reports and discussions will cover appropriate investigative staffing levels and case-processing times, as well as measures to strengthen human rights protections, inspections and external oversight.
Improvements to the disciplinary system and rotating personnel assignments in investigative departments will also be discussed. The committee will additionally consider a draft of its operating rules.
The committee will also review opinions and questions raised by frontline investigators at a field meeting held on the 11th at Seoul Gangnam Police Station.
At the meeting, frontline personnel offered views on initial investigative procedures following 112 emergency reports and case intake; reporting and command systems for major cases; the caseload per investigator; securing investigative personnel and expertise; and personnel and training systems in investigative departments.
Before the meeting, Acting Commissioner General Kim Jongcheol will visit the committee and greet external members, including Chairman Kim Nam-joon.
