Busan-Style Smart Water-Supply Model Selected for Official Development Assistance Project

[Financial News] Busan Water Authority announced on the 14th that it had been selected as the implementing institution for the 2026 public cooperation project organized by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
This is the first time the Busan Water Authority has been selected for an official development assistance (ODA) project. In May, it applied for Q-DEEP, a rapid development consulting project under KOICA’s public cooperation initiatives, and was the only local government selected among the 18 projects chosen.
Q-DEEP, the initiative selected this time, uses public-sector expertise to provide policy advice and capacity-building support for key development agendas in developing countries and projects requiring rapid implementation.
Through the project, the authority will apply the Busan-style smart water-supply model—based on Busan’s accumulated experience in smart water-supply policies and operations—to Tanzania. It will provide consulting services to improve the country’s local water-supply operating system.
The Busan-style smart water-supply model combines a block monitoring system project for the efficient operation and management of water-supply networks with a comprehensive plan to improve the revenue water ratio and reduce leakage.
The authority will receive 400 million won from KOICA and carry out the project for small cities in Tanzania from next month through May next year.
Through the project, the authority plans to help strengthen Tanzania’s water-management capabilities and establish a sustainable smart water-supply operating system. It also plans to develop a concrete international development cooperation model linking Busan’s public policies with the technologies of local companies.
