"Opening 2,100 Government R&D Results to the Private Sector"... 'Public Technology Transfer Roadshow' to Be Held

[Financial News] A total of more than 2,000 excellent public technologies developed through government research and development (R&D) investment will be transferred to the private market.
The Ministry of Intellectual Property announced on the 14th that it will hold the '2026 Inter-Ministerial Public Technology Transfer and Commercialization Roadshow' at the Science and Technology Convention Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, jointly with 11 government ministries, including the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Trade and Industry. The event will serve as a platform for exchange between technology-supplying and technology-demanding companies, connecting excellent public technologies with industry demand and helping lead to actual technology transfer and commercialization.
This year's event will be jointly hosted by 11 ministries, including the Ministry of Intellectual Property, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Korea AeroSpace Administration, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, the Rural Development Administration, and the Korea Forest Service, along with 11 related organizations, including the Korea Intellectual Property Strategy Agency. Approximately 500 people, including researchers and corporate representatives, are expected to gather.
The event will feature one-on-one customized technology consultations between technology suppliers and demanders for a total of 2,132 promising public technologies, as well as integrated briefings by ministry on commercialization support programs. Signing ceremonies for major technology transfer agreements resulting from the 2024 and 2025 roadshows will also be held.
In addition, 12 technology transfer offices (TLOs) at universities and public research institutes that have demonstrated outstanding performance in intellectual property creation and commercialization, including Catholic Kwandong University, Ajou University, and Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, have been selected as 'Institutions of Excellence in Intellectual Property Management' and will receive commendations. These institutions will receive 'Intellectual Property (IP) Points,' which provide financial support for intellectual property creation and management, for up to three years.
As technology transfer performance has been undervalued relative to public R&D investment, the government plans to accelerate the transfer of public technologies to the private sector through this large-scale roadshow. In particular, it is strengthening measures to ease the initial commercialization funding burden on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and venture companies receiving technology transfers by expanding support linked to technology guarantees and public technology financing.
"It is important that excellent public technologies do not remain solely in research institutes but are transformed into assets traded in the market," said Kim Yong-sun, Minister of Intellectual Property. "We will continue to pursue effective IP policies, including the creation of high-quality patents tailored to market demand and support for global expansion, so that national R&D achievements can serve as a new driving force for innovative growth."
