Busan Metropolitan City Government Opens Marine Industry–Academia–Research Cooperation Center... “Linking Research Achievements to Companies”

[Financial News] A marine-focused industry–academia–research cooperation platform has opened in Busan to connect the city’s marine science and technology research capabilities with companies and promote corporate growth.
Busan Metropolitan City Government announced that it would hold an opening ceremony for the Marine Science and Technology Industry–Academia–Research Cooperation Center (K-OceanX) on the afternoon of the 14th in the Dongsam Innovation District in Yeongdo-gu.
The center will directly connect the marine research and development (R&BD) capabilities of public institutions, universities, and research institutes concentrated in the Dongsam Innovation District’s marine cluster with companies.
The center was built on a 5,868-square-meter site, with a total floor area of 10,385 square meters. It has one underground level and seven above-ground floors.
It includes corporate offices, industry–academia–research collaboration spaces such as R&D rooms, shared workspaces, conference rooms, and seminar rooms, providing various areas for companies and research institutions to interact and collaborate.
Starting next year, the center will gradually establish advanced infrastructure, including a maritime and port artificial intelligence transformation (AX) demonstration center, to support technology development and commercialization by companies in the marine AI convergence sector.
The center plans to strengthen cooperation between resident companies and marine-related institutions through various development programs supporting the companies’ stable settlement and growth, joint research and technology development, regular exchange events, and network building.
Busan Techno Park and the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI) will jointly operate the center under commission.
Busan Metropolitan City Government plans to strengthen links between the marine R&D capabilities in the Dongsam Innovation District and companies, with the center serving as a hub, while fostering AI- and data-based industries.
Mayor Chun Jae-soo said, "The opening of this center will help establish a virtuous cycle in which Busan’s marine science and technology research achievements lead to corporate growth, and corporate growth in turn leads to new technologies and jobs."
