【Financial News Daegu = Reporter Jang Wook Kim】“Please name Sincheon Proposal’s new name yourself!”
Daegu Metropolitan City has established “rest, enjoyment and connection” as the new concept for the Sincheon Proposal multipurpose cultural complex. From the 15th to the 29th, it will collect citizens’ ideas for a new name through “Talk Daegu.”
The city plans to finalize a new name by the end of October through public participation and expert consultation. The name will reflect the space’s purpose as a place where anyone can comfortably rest, enjoy themselves and spend time in their daily lives.
Jang Jae-ok, head of the Clean Water Promotion Division, emphasized, “We want to choose a new name for Sincheon Proposal that all citizens can relate to by reflecting their diverse ideas. We hope citizens will actively participate so that a name symbolizing Sincheon’s new landmark can be selected.”
Citizens can submit their ideas through the Daegu Metropolitan City website and Talk Daegu.
Anyone can freely suggest a new name for Sincheon Proposal that fits the new concept. The city also plans to draw about 50 participants and provide them with coffee coupons.
Sincheon Proposal was planned as a multipurpose cultural complex overlooking Sincheon in the section downstream from Daebong Bridge. Although the name Sincheon Proposal was adopted after the design was finalized, controversy over the name continued, prompting concerns that the project might not be effective in fulfilling its original purpose.
Construction began in February last year. The project will include a circular, two-level deck and plaza measuring 45 meters in diameter.
The project gained momentum in 2024 during the tenure of then-Mayor Hong Joon-pyo. Hong previously said, “If you visit Pont Neuf in Paris, France, young men and women hang locks on the bridge wishing to stay together and live happily for the rest of their lives, then throw the keys into the Seine River.” He added, “We want to create a similar proposal landmark in Daegu.”
