JLK Moves from Medical Imaging AI to 'Clinical Decision-Making AI': "Participating in KRW 15.6 Billion National Project"

[Financial News] JLK, a medical artificial intelligence (AI) company, is expanding beyond stroke medical imaging analysis into agentic AI that supports diagnosis, treatment, and patient transfers. The move broadens its business from simple reading assistance to a platform that supports clinicians' actual clinical decision-making.
According to JLK on the 14th, the company will participate as a joint research and development institution in the approximately KRW 15.6 billion 2026 Korean ARPA-H Project being pursued by the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW).
The project is led by the Hanyang University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation and will be carried out through the end of 2030 with the participation of seven institutions, including JLK. Its core objective is to build CHAIN, a Korean healthcare agentic AI platform that integrates acute stroke clinical information with medical imaging AI.
JLK will develop technology linking its stroke medical imaging AI with clinical agentic AI. The system will combine brain imaging analysis results from CT and MRI scans with patients' clinical information to support not only diagnosis but also subsequent decisions, including treatment direction and patient transfers.
The project is expected to mark an expansion of JLK's stroke AI business from image analysis to the clinical care process. While conventional medical imaging AI has focused on identifying lesions and providing information to clinicians, agentic AI connects multiple sources of information and AI models to support decision-making throughout each patient's care process.
The technology is drawing particular attention for its potential use in regional medical institutions that lack specialized personnel and medical resources, given that treatment speed can determine outcomes in stroke cases. Another key point is whether AI technology developed primarily at major hospitals can be extended to essential healthcare services in regional communities.
A JLK official emphasized, "We will combine stroke medical imaging AI technology with agentic AI to establish a clinical support system that can be used in regional healthcare settings," adding, "We will present a model that helps narrow the gap in stroke care between regions."
An industry official said, "Competition in medical imaging AI is shifting from individual interpretation solutions toward support for the entire clinical workflow," adding, "How naturally the technology can connect the process from diagnosis to treatment decisions will be a key factor in future commercialization."
