From Environmental Education to Seagrass Habitat Restoration...Hope Friend Hunger Countermeasures and LG Chem Showcase Social Contributions

[Financial News] Hope Friend Hunger Countermeasures and LG Chem will showcase social-contribution activities carried out together, ranging from environmental education for children to marine ecosystem restoration.
According to the international relief and development NGO Hope Friend Hunger Countermeasures on the 14th, the two organizations will participate in the 3rd Korea Social Value Festa 2026, held on the 21st and 22nd at Hall A of the COEX Convention & Exhibition Center in Seoul.
The event provides a forum for the government, businesses, academia and citizens to share cases of addressing social issues such as the environment, low birth rates and an aging population. In the “Society” exhibition area, the two organizations will introduce the educational program Like Green and their ecological and environmental initiatives.
Like Green, which has been operated since 2021, is an environmental, science and social education program. About 130,000 children participated last year in Green Class, which provides educational materials to schools and childcare institutions.
LG Chem also operates the Green Class Volunteer Corps, through which its employees provide elementary school students with environmental education and career mentoring. Activities at the Bamseom Ecological Experience Center, an urban ecological education space, will also be featured in the exhibition.
In the marine environment sector, the organizations will present the Seagrass Habitat Restoration Research Project. Seagrass is a flowering marine plant and a carbon sink. Since 2023, LG Chem has transplanted a total of 70,000 seagrass plants in the waters off Daegyeongdo in Yeosu, Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, while continuing habitat restoration and research.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), coastal ecosystems such as seagrass beds store a significant amount of the carbon they absorb underground and provide habitats for young fish. Restoring these habitats can therefore help protect both their carbon-storage function and the growth environment for marine life.
On-site programs inviting visitors to participate, including quizzes related to the projects, will also be available.
Park Chan-wook, head of the ESG Sharing Division at Hope Friend Hunger Countermeasures, said, "I hope this exhibition will serve as an opportunity to reflect together on the roles of companies and citizens in creating change in our society and environment."
