Kia’s ‘PV7’ Makes World Premiere in Hanover, Germany, Accelerating the Global Electrification of Commercial Vehicles

[Financial News] The global commercial vehicle industry’s race for supremacy in future mobility technology gets underway in Hanover, Germany. As Kia opens its push into the European market with the world premiere of its second dedicated purpose-built vehicle (PBV), the PV7, global automakers and parts suppliers are gathering to compete for leadership in electric commercial vehicles.
According to industry sources on the 14th, the world’s largest commercial vehicle exhibition, IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026, opens in Hanover, Germany, beginning with a press day on the same day local time. The event showcases new technologies in commercial vehicles, logistics and transportation under one roof. Automakers, parts manufacturers and software companies are highlighting electrification and autonomous-driving technologies.
Among Korean companies, Kia’s booth is attracting the most attention. Kia will unveil the PV7 to the public for the first time in the world at the event. It is the company’s second dedicated electric PBV model, following the midsize PV5 launched last year, and is designed to meet a range of needs, including passenger and cargo transport, with a larger body. Kia’s strategy is to establish a comprehensive PBV lineup spanning small to large vehicles and gain an early foothold in Europe’s highly competitive light commercial vehicle market. Alongside the PV7, Kia will also spotlight related technologies, including derivative models of the PV5.
Competition among global commercial vehicle brands in electric trucks has also entered full swing. Germany’s MAN Truck & Bus will make the world premiere of the new eTGX for long-distance transport and display its full range of electric trucks, spanning 12 to 50 tons. Traditional heavyweights such as Daimler Truck, Volvo Trucks and Scania, as well as China’s BYD, are stepping up their efforts to expand their presence.
The tire industry is also moving quickly to keep pace with the electrification of commercial vehicles. Hankook Tire & Technology will introduce the e-Smart City tire for electric city buses, along with new truck and bus tires (TBR) and vehicle-management solutions. Meanwhile, IAA organizers have significantly expanded their test-drive program this year, deploying more than 80 commercial vehicles so visitors can experience future transportation technologies, including autonomous driving, firsthand.
