From Chuseok Moon Viewing to Outdoor Plays... National Gugak Center Presents Special Hangawi Performances

[Financial News] During the Chuseok holiday, traditional Korean music performances, including tightrope walking, changgeuk, and madanggeuk, will be held in Seoul, Busan, and Jindo County in the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City. Holiday food-making experiences and online performances will also be offered.
According to the National Gugak Center on the 14th, the Chuseok performance 'The Bright Full Moon' will be held at Yeonhuimadang, an outdoor performance venue, at 7:30 p.m. on the 25th. The Jeongak Ensemble, Folk Music Ensemble, and Dance Company will present daechwita, a medley of folk songs, ganggangsullae, pangut, and janggu dance. Nam Chang-dong and Nam Hae-ung, a father-and-son duo, will fill the stage with a tightrope-walking performance.
Admission is 10,000 won for all seats. Before the performance, visitors can participate free of charge in activities such as pounding rice cakes, making gochujang (red chili paste), and making tangerine-chip rice crackers at the lawn plaza in front of Yeakdang. Only audience members who selected an experience ticket when purchasing their admission tickets may participate.
The Gugak Museum will operate normally from the 24th to the 27th. Souvenirs will be given on a first-come, first-served basis to visitors who tour the exhibition and verify completion of the stamp mission, with 200 available per day.
The Busan National Gugak Center will stage the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Municipal Changgeuk Troupe's 'Heegyeongnu Banghoe-do' at Yeonakdang at 3 p.m. on the 25th. Based on a painting of the same name designated as a treasure, this changgeuk depicts the friendship, love, conflict, and reconciliation of four people. Tickets cost 20,000 won for S seats and 10,000 won for A seats.
The Namdo National Gugak Center will present a new madanggeuk, 'Daedongjangteo,' free of charge at Jinakdang Hall at 3 p.m. on the 25th and 26th. Set against the backdrop of Jindo's five-day market, it depicts the commotion that unfolds as a medicine seller, a candy seller, a puffed-rice seller, and others enter a competition to become the 'God of Commerce.'
While the Seoul performance showcases various traditional performing arts in one place, the stages in Busan and Jindo County are story-centered, following their characters and events. Even among holiday performances, the choices differ depending on whether audiences want to enjoy a range of dance and music or watch a drama with a narrative.
If it is difficult to visit a performance venue, viewers can watch seven performance videos released on the National Gugak Center's YouTube channel from the 24th to the 30th. They include the Folk Music Ensemble's 'Kkotsin Singo Hwalhwal,' the Dance Company's 'Chunhyangdanjeon,' and the National Folk Gugak Center's 'Dokgabi-daek's Cart Song.'
