On the 14th, the National Credit Union Federation of Korea announced that it attended the 2026 Asia Credit Union Forum and the ACCU Annual General Meeting, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for three days starting on the 11th, and discussed sustainable growth and financial innovation measures with credit union officials from various Asian countries.
Chairman Ko was elected as the new president of the ACCU. His term is two years, starting in 2026.
Currently, 220 cooperatives from the Asia-Pacific region participate in ACCU as sponsoring members, supporting various projects for the development of credit unions in developing Asian countries. Among them, 152 are Korean credit unions, and representatives from 29 of these domestic ACCU sponsoring members attended this forum, adding significance to the exchange and solidarity among Asian credit unions.
This year's forum was held under the theme "Unspoken Reality, Bold Connections: The Transformation and Resilience of Credit Unions in the 2026+ Era." At the forum, NACUFOK introduced the operational experience and achievements of the "Shared Growth Cooperative System" under the theme "Connecting Growth Beyond Systems."
Chairman Ko stated, "To achieve sustainable growth for credit unions amidst a rapidly changing financial environment, we must share the experiences and capabilities of each country and find solutions together." He added, "I will strive to share the experience of mutual growth and cooperation accumulated by Korean credit unions with member countries and work to enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of credit unions in Asia."
Meanwhile, Chairman Ko was appointed as an appointed director on the board of directors of the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) last June. WOCCU is an international organization representing credit and financial cooperatives worldwide, supporting the growth and cooperation of credit unions in each country, expanding financial inclusion, and improving systems.
