"Yong Hye-in Held Out Too Long... President's Approval Rating Falling 1 Percentage Point a Day"

[Financial News] Yong Hye-in abruptly resigned as the nominee for minister of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family 14 days after being nominated. She resigned after receiving a request from the Democratic Party of Korea leadership, but the fallout shows no sign of subsiding easily.
Regarding the matter, Choi Jin, head of the Presidential Leadership Institute, appeared on KBS Radio 1's "Jung Kwan-yong's Current Affairs Headquarters" on the 13th and said that Yong had "held out for far too long."
Choi said, "I believe the approval rating fell by 1 percentage point a day." He added, "The Democratic Party of Korea leadership also overlooked the political trend too much, while Yong Hye-in held out as if the president did not matter at all."
Choi Jin continued, "Although warning signs emerged after young people in their 20s and 30s initially turned away, holding out for 14 days was an ignorant response." He stressed, "She effectively resigned only after the situation had reached its worst."
Choi Chang-ryeol, a special professor at Yong In University, also said, "I simply cannot understand the political judgment," adding, "She was selected to win over young public opinion, but she was clearly a candidate young men could turn their backs on, while even young women had no choice but to turn away amid the controversy over perceived preferential treatment."
He continued, "At a press conference a few days ago, she sent a strong message that she would hold out, further intensifying the backlash." He added, "She said immediately after resigning that she had received a request from the Democratic Party of Korea. It is questionable why she conveyed her official position only now."
