[Financial News] Kim So-young, 38, a former announcer turned entrepreneur, expressed her gratitude, saying that her husband Oh Sang-jin's steadfast support was a decisive source of strength as she built her business.
On the 12th, the JTBC variety show 'Knowing Bros' featured comedian-turned-writer Go Myung-hwan, announcers Oh Sang-jin and Kim So-young, and singer Kwon Eun-bi as guests.
On the show, Kim So-young introduced herself as "the CEO of a company that has received 7 billion won in investment." She also revealed that she had recently launched a cosmetics brand, explaining that it was attracting attention overseas after entering the U.S. market and being featured in a European magazine.
She had not planned to become an entrepreneur from the beginning. Kim So-young admitted, "I was not particularly talented at business originally." Although she became an announcer because she regarded it as a stable career, she said she continued to question whether the job was right for her even while working.
When Kim So-young decided to leave the broadcasting station and enter the business world, the person who supported her most closely was Oh Sang-jin. Kim So-young recalled, "My husband became my backer," adding, "He told me to quit the stable broadcasting job and pursue what I wanted to do, believing in myself."
Kim So-young said she started her business with 30 million won in severance pay as seed money. Although things did not always go as planned in the early days, she said Oh Sang-jin continued to encourage her, saying, "Keep going." She expressed her gratitude, saying, "I don't think I could have started a business without my husband."
The conversation also touched on weight loss. Kim So-young said, "I weighed 69 kilograms after giving birth, but I weigh 54 kilograms now," explaining that she had lost about 15 kilograms after childbirth. She had considered taking the obesity treatment drug Mounjaro, but said she instead managed her weight by controlling her diet at a postpartum care center.
Kim So-young and Oh Sang-jin first became acquainted as junior and senior announcers at Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC). They married in 2017 and now have a daughter and a son.
