Russia Strikes 2 Kilometers from Poland; Train Carrying Former British and Swedish Prime Ministers Nearly Hit

[Financial News] Russia carried out an airstrike on railway facilities in western Ukraine, near Poland.
The attack also prompted claims that a train carrying former British and Swedish prime ministers nearly came under attack.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation said in a statement on the 13th, local time, "We struck railway infrastructure facilities in western Ukraine that transport military cargo from European countries."
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation added that it had also carried out airstrikes using air-launched precision-guided weapons and attack drones against a military logistics center and substations in Odesa, as well as substations in Mykolaiv.
Ukraine's Kyiv Post reported that, according to Ukrainian authorities, the Volyn Oblast region was hit by an airstrike that morning, just 2 kilometers from the Yahodyn–Dorohusk border crossing between Ukraine and Poland.
The locomotive of a passenger train bound for Warsaw was damaged in the aftermath of the airstrike. A fire broke out at a gas station and spread to a cargo truck. Although the border checkpoint itself was not directly damaged, operations were suspended during the air-raid alert, forcing travelers to evacuate.
Carl Bildt, who served as Sweden's prime minister, wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "It was not our train, but the train following ours at the border crossing was attacked," adding, "Passengers evacuated when drones approached, and no one was injured."
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was traveling on the same train as former Prime Minister Bildt, also condemned the attack on Instagram as "indiscriminate and senseless." They were reportedly returning from a visit to Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.
Ukraine's railway authorities said that "train schedules were adjusted in real time as the threat of Russian attacks continued, and the 'diplomatic train,' which departed earlier than originally scheduled, may have been the original target of Russian drones," Reuters reported.
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski condemned the incident as an act of "escalation" by Russia.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said, "Vladimir Putin's terrorism has directly targeted the door of the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)," adding, "Russia's barbarians have come right to your doorstep."
