Ko Kyung-yeol, Head of Baewon Printing, Receives Silver Crown Order of Cultural Merit

[Financial News] Ko Kyung-yeol, head of Baewon Printing, will receive the Silver Crown Order of Cultural Merit for his contributions to printing technology development and environmentally friendly management.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) on the 14th, awards will be presented to 23 people who have contributed to the development of printing culture at a ceremony marking the 38th Printing Culture Day, held that day at the Korea Federation of SMEs (KBIZ). The recipients include one person each for the Order of Cultural Merit, the Presidential Citation, and the Prime Minister’s Citation, as well as 20 recipients of the MCST Minister’s Citation.
After founding Baewon Printing in 1988, Ko developed and applied seven patented technologies in production, including a double-sided, adhesive-free laminating method that can be repeatedly attached and detached without glue. He also established an occupational safety and health management system and introduced environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices.
Park Sang-chun, CEO of Gabo P&B, will receive the Presidential Citation. He expanded the company’s markets by exporting paper for semiconductor production to Taiwan and computer printing materials to China and Vietnam. He also contributed to training skilled workers through industry-academic cooperation, including by providing the company’s equipment for practical training.
Park Hee-tae, CEO of Shark Communication and a recipient of the Prime Minister’s Citation, expanded the production of high-value-added printed materials by combining design and printing. Twenty people, including Ko Sung-jin, CEO of Jin Process, will receive the MCST Minister’s Citation for contributions such as quality improvement and collaboration among companies.
The Order of Cultural Merit honors achievements that have contributed to improving the nation’s cultural life and advancing the country through the development of culture and the arts. It is divided into five grades: Gold Crown, Silver Crown, Bo-gwan, Jade Crown, and Flower Crown. The Silver Crown is the second grade.
Printing Culture Day was established by the printing industry in 1988 to commemorate the 25th day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar in 1447, when the metal-type edition of the Korean text Seokbosangjeol was printed. The anniversary falls on September 14 on the Gregorian calendar.
Kim Young-soo, the first vice minister of the MCST, said, "We will support the printing culture industry so that it can create new growth opportunities and ensure that outstanding printing culture spreads widely at home and abroad."
