[Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated on the 13th (local time) that the war with Iran “will end right after the midterm elections, maybe before then.”
President Trump, who is visiting Ireland, made the remarks while meeting with reporters at his golf course in Dungbeg. He added, “Iran desperately wants to negotiate. They keep calling us constantly.”
He continued, “They want a deal. They have to make the right deal. I’m not going to make a useless deal.”
President Trump added, “Ultimately, we will leave Iran unless we decide to stay and take the oil, as we did in Venezuela.”
Asked about Iran and countries in the Persian Gulf region meeting in Oman on the 14th to discuss a solution concerning passage through the Strait of Hormuz, he said, “I don’t care. It’s up to them.”
President Trump was also asked whether he was worried that Chinese President Xi Jinping might cancel his planned visit to the United States on the 24th and the U.S.-China summit with Trump. He replied, “No.”
He continued, “We have a great relationship. He wants to get along, and so do we. I think China has treated us very fairly during the years I have been in office. During the Biden and Obama years, China made tremendous gains,” he said.
Asked whether Congress should approve his pledge, announced at the Republican Party’s midterm election convention in Dallas, Texas, on the 9th, to pay a $5,000 dividend to each American if the Republican Party wins the midterm elections, President Trump replied, “I don’t know, but if the Republican Party wins, it will be easy enough to get it approved by Congress.”
He continued, “We can easily afford it because we are bringing in tremendous amounts of money. The Democratic Party cannot make such a pledge. If it did, everything would immediately become a mess, and we could fall into a Great Depression,” he said, emphasizing, “I made a promise, and I always keep my promises.”
