■ Targeting the Mid-size Ban Market with PV7
Kia is targeting the heart of the European van market. According to market research firm DataForce, the European mid-size electric van (eMVAN) market grew by 9.2% year-on-year in the first half of this year, reaching 57,804 units. This figure surpasses the demand for the C-segment electric van (eCVAN) market (44,810 units) during the same period. Although Kia’s PV5 ranked first in market share in the C-segment, the actual greater demand was concentrated elsewhere.Accordingly, Kia introduced the PV7, which is larger in size than the mid-size PBV PV5. Although the PV7 falls into the large category within its own PBV lineup, it is classified as a mid-size van, a key segment in the European light commercial vehicle market. The PV7 features a body measuring 5,350 mm in length, 2,030 mm in width (excluding outside mirrors), 1,990 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 3,500 mm. Compared to the European L2 (long wheelbase) PV5, the length has increased by 655 mm and the wheelbase by 505 mm. The width and height have also increased by 135 mm and 67 mm, respectively.
As the body has grown larger, the difference in class is clearly evident in the loading performance as well. The PV7 Cargo has a loading capacity of 6.1 m3 according to VDA standards for the long model, allowing it to carry up to three Euro Pallets with dimensions of 1200×800 mm. This is one more than the PV5 Cargo (2 pallets).
■ Launch in 2027... Lineup expanded to PV9
The exterior features a one-box silhouette that reflects Kia's design philosophy, 'Opposing United.' It is equipped with a high-capacity battery and an 800V charging system based on the dedicated electric vehicle platform E-GMP.S. The battery is available in 71.5 kWh and 96.2 kWh capacities for the Standard and Long Range models, respectively; the Long Range model can travel over 460 km on a single charge according to European WLTP standards (Cargo Long, based on internal measurements). With ultra-fast charging up to 350 kW, the battery state of charge (SoC) can be fully charged from 10% to 80% in the mid-20 minute range. Power is provided by a front-wheel motor with a maximum output of 200 kW and a maximum torque of 420 Nm.Kia plans to first launch the PV7 Passenger Long and Cargo Long in Korea and Europe in the second half of 2027, followed by the sequential rollout of 23 derivative and conversion models to the global market. Subsequently, the company intends to expand its lineup to include the PV9 by 2029, aiming to achieve its goal of selling 14 electrified models, including three PBVs, and 232,000 global PBVs annually by 2030.
"The PV7 is a model that presents the next stage of the journey toward personalized mobility," said Kia President Song Ho-sung. "Based on a vehicle capable of flexibly responding to customers' diverse businesses, best-in-class electric vehicle performance, and dedicated PBV services, we will provide a comprehensive business solution that enhances customers' productivity, flexibility, and long-term ownership value."
Meanwhile, the scale of Kia's exhibition hall also stood out. The hall where Kia's booth was located was considered the biggest battleground of the expo, as major global LCV manufacturers such as Stellantis Pro One, Ford Pro, Renault, Mercedes-Benz Van, and Toyota gathered in one space. Kia set up a booth spanning 1,531 square meters (approximately 464 pyeong), securing a larger space than Renault's 1,200 square meters and Stellantis Pro One's 1,000 square meters.
