[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung congratulated director Lee Chang-dong on the Grand Jury Prize awarded to his film 'Possible Love' at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival on the 13th.
That day, President Lee wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "Director Lee Chang-dong's 'Possible Love' won the Grand Jury Prize at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival," adding, "I once again extend my heartfelt congratulations to Director Lee Chang-dong and all the actors and crew."
He also mentioned meeting the director during his recent state visit to France. President Lee said, "When I met the director and the actors at the previous Lumière Summit, I heard firsthand about the strong local interest in the film," adding, "I am even more pleased that the expectations at the time have led to such a positive result."
He continued, "I hope this award will further broaden the diversity of our cinema and allow more outstanding films to reach audiences around the world," emphasizing, "I will continue to support the brilliant journey of Korean cinema."
'Possible Love' received the Silver Lion, the festival's second-highest prize, at this year's Venice International Film Festival. It was the first award for a Korean film in the competition section in 14 years, since the late director Kim Ki-duk won the Golden Lion for 'Pietà' in 2012.
For Lee Chang-dong personally, it was his first Venice International Film Festival award in 24 years, since he won the Best Director award for 'Oasis' in 2002. 'Possible Love' explores life and desire as a documentary filmmaker couple meets a couple who were dismissed from their jobs to produce a film.
