MOLIT to Host GICC from the 15th, Seeking Ways to Support Overseas Expansion by Korean Companies

[Financial News] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) will establish a platform for international cooperation to support Korean companies’ overseas expansion in the global infrastructure market, which is being reshaped by artificial intelligence (AI).
According to MOLIT on the 13th, MOLIT and the International Contractors Association of Korea (ICAK) will hold the Global Infrastructure Cooperation Conference (GICC) 2026 for three days starting on the 15th.
GICC has been held annually since 2013 to promote cooperation among governments, overseas project owners, multilateral development banks, and construction and engineering companies, while supporting Korean companies’ entry into overseas markets. To date, 590 organizations from 90 countries have participated, contributing to approximately 450 international cooperation projects.
The conference, now in its 14th year, is expected to bring together around 500 participants, including key figures such as ministers, vice ministers, and CEOs from 32 countries, as well as officials from public institutions and construction and engineering companies in Korea and abroad. Under the main theme “Cooperation on Global Infrastructure Projects with AI,” participants will discuss the future of construction and transport infrastructure reshaped by AI and practical ways to cooperate.
In conjunction with the first Korea-Central Asia Summit, which will take place during the same period, the conference will also hold in-depth discussions on cooperation with major Central Asian countries in transport and infrastructure. Memorandums of understanding (MOUs) are scheduled to be signed to produce follow-up results in various fields, including land, urban development, and transport.
Immediately after the opening ceremony, a high-level multilateral meeting chaired by Kim Young-tae, secretary-general of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) International Transport Forum (ITF), will be held. Six ministers from overseas project owners will attend to discuss their countries’ infrastructure development plans and strategic cooperation measures.
The AI and energy infrastructure seminar will feature Engineering News-Record (ENR), Ernst & Young Hanyoung, and global data center company Equinix. They will share insights into AI’s impact on design, construction, and data center operations, while exploring the current state of the energy transition needed to meet large-scale power demand and strategies for Korean companies to enter overseas markets.
At the transport cooperation seminar, Korea National Railway, Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), Korea Expressway Corporation, and Incheon International Airport Corporation will introduce transit-oriented development (TOD), AI-enabled highway operation and maintenance, and expertise in AI-based airport investment and operations. They will also work to develop specific cooperation plans for railway and road infrastructure projects with major project owners from Tajikistan, Australia, and elsewhere.
A global cooperation forum, project briefings, and one-on-one business meetings will also be held, creating a platform for exchanging information on new projects from overseas project owners and projects of interest to participating companies. The event will support participation in multilateral development bank (MDB) projects involving the World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), and International Finance Corporation (IFC), as well as promote overseas investment and development projects.

Through this GICC, I hope Korea can establish itself as a global partner that meets the infrastructure needs of countries around the world."
