China and India: "Partners, Not Competitors"... Accelerating Border Stability and Economic Cooperation

He also emphasized that they would work together to resolve the border issue that has strained relations between the two nations.
According to China's Xinhua News Agency, France's Agence France-Presse (AFP), and the U.S. The Associated Press (AP) on the 12th (local time), President Xi Jinping, who visited India for the first time in seven years to attend the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, said during a summit with Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi, "Both sides must together safeguard peace and stability in border regions."
President Xi said, "We have viewed and developed the relationship between China and India from a strategic and long-term perspective," and added that through two meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi over the past two years, he led the relationship between the two countries from a "restart" to a "re-leap forward."
It was also mentioned that there is a need to promote the stable development of economic and trade relations between the two countries and to substantially improve the foundation of public opinion toward both nations by increasing people-to-people and cultural exchanges and direct flights.
Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi expressed gratitude for China's cooperation regarding the hosting of the BRICS summit. He said, "I hope we become partners with China, not competitors, and view each other's development as an opportunity, not a challenge."
According to a report by Xinhua News Agency, Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi is reported to have stated, "There is no change in India's policy and position regarding issues related to Taiwan and Tibet, and we will not allow any forces to engage in anti-China activities in India."
Relations between China and India deteriorated rapidly following a bloody clash at the border in 2020, but they are recently accelerating the improvement of relations through continued contact between leaders and dialogue between diplomatic and security authorities. President Xi and Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi held talks on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia in 2024, and met again last year at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China.
However, the fundamental territorial issue remains unresolved. Both countries have deployed large-scale troops along a high-altitude border of approximately 3,500 km in The Himalayas, and the previous day, dozens of Tibetans staged a protest in New Delhi against President Xi's visit.
