Cheong Wa Dae: "We Respect Yong Hye-in’s Decision to Resign; She Made the Decision Herself to Reduce the Burden on State Affairs and People’s Livelihoods"

[Financial News] Cheong Wa Dae said on the 13th that it "respects the decision of Yong, the ministerial nominee," in response to Yong Hye-in’s resignation as nominee for minister of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
Kang Yoo-jung, Cheong Wa Dae’s senior spokesperson, said, "We believe the nominee made the decision herself to reduce the burden on state affairs and people’s livelihoods," adding that the office respects her decision.
Kang said, "The necessary follow-up procedures will proceed according to the established regulations," adding, "Cheong Wa Dae will make every effort in the verification and appointment processes to select personnel who meet the standards expected by the public."
Earlier that day, Yong held a press conference at the National Assembly and announced that she would step down as the ministerial nominee. She had maintained through the 10th that there was no issue with concurrently serving as a proportional-representation lawmaker and minister, but resigned two weeks after her appointment after the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) also urged her to make a decision, citing the need to build public consensus.
Yong said, "I judged that it would be realistically difficult to perform the role while the ruling party was also expressing concerns." Accordingly, Cheong Wa Dae is expected to begin follow-up procedures to appoint a successor as minister of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
