[Financial News] A, who was in a de facto marital relationship with B, the son of singer couple Hong Seo-beom and Jo Gap-kyung, has received a final partially favorable ruling in a damages lawsuit.
According to Star News on the 13th, the Supreme Court of Korea dismissed without further review A’s damages lawsuit against B over the breakdown of their de facto marriage. As a result, the appellate court’s partially favorable ruling for A became final.
A filed a damages lawsuit over the breakdown of her de facto marriage, claiming that B had an affair during their relationship and left their home, causing the relationship to collapse. She also claimed that consolation money and child support were not properly paid even after the judgment, and that Hong Seo-beom and Jo Gap-kyung, who had been her parents-in-law, stood by without taking action. These allegations were first reported in March this year.
The trial court ruled in A’s lawsuit against B, the son of Hong Seo-beom and Jo Gap-kyung, over the breakdown of their de facto marriage, ordering him to "pay KRW 30 million in consolation money and KRW 800,000 in monthly child support." A also won a separate damages lawsuit against C, the woman involved in the affair, and was awarded KRW 20 million.
A appealed the trial court’s ruling. She won partially in the appellate trial on June 25 but subsequently filed a final appeal.
Hong Seo-beom and Jo Gap-kyung issued an official statement regarding the controversy. The couple said, "We will guide him so that his legal obligations, including the payment of child support and consolation money ordered by the court, can be fulfilled promptly, and we will help him fulfill his responsibilities as the child’s father."
