Port of Busan Documented Through Young Eyes as ‘People of the Port of Busan’ Student Press Corps Launches

[Financial News] The first student press corps for ‘People of the Port of Busan,’ which documents the lives and experiences of frontline workers who built the Port of Busan from the perspective of young people, has officially begun its activities.


The Busan Labor Forum announced on the 13th that it held the launch ceremony for the first student press corps of ‘People of the Port of Busan’ on the afternoon of the 10th at the office of the ‘People of the Port of Busan’ Steering Committee in Jung-gu, Busan.
‘People of the Port of Busan’ is a public-interest documentation project that uncovers the lives, experiences, and memories from the field of workers in the port, shipping, and fisheries sectors who have grown alongside the Port of Busan, and passes them on to the next generation. The project aims to document the stories of frontline workers who have been at the center of the Port of Busan’s development but have not received adequate recognition, preserving them as industrial and cultural assets of Busan.
The student press corps, made up of university students in Busan, will visit the Port of Busan and related industrial sites to interview workers in person. Through interviews, they will present the experience and specialized skills accumulated over many years in the field, as well as the hardships and rewards encountered during industrial change, in various forms of content, including articles, photographs, and videos.
At the launch ceremony, appointment certificates were presented to the student reporters, and the purpose, direction, and future activity plans of the ‘People of the Port of Busan’ project were introduced. Basic training was then provided on field reporting, interview methods, and the fundamental principles of article writing.
The student reporters will reinterpret, from the perspective of young people, the voices of those who drove the growth and development of the Port of Busan, including port workers, seafarers, shipping and logistics workers, and people involved in the fisheries industry. Their activities will focus not merely on listing the history or achievements of an industry, but on creating vivid records that connect people and labor, generations, and communities.
One student who participated in the press corps pledged, "We will join forces to ensure that this project does not remain a one-time event, but becomes a sustainable documentation initiative that properly understands and records Busan’s valuable assets and passes them on to the next generation."
A representative of the ‘People of the Port of Busan’ Steering Committee said, "Through this event, we will record the past and present of the Port of Busan and develop this into a sustainable public-interest project where frontline workers and younger generations can discuss the future of the Port of Busan together."
