"Gangwon Is Closer Than You Think": Gangwon State to Promote Region Through Seoul Metropolitan Events

【Financial News Chuncheon = Kim Ki-seop】Gangwon State will visit major event venues in Seoul to inform residents of the Seoul metropolitan area that Gangwon is closer than they think.
According to Gangwon State on the 13th, it will operate “Nearby Gangwon” promotional booths at the Jamsu Bridge Ttubukttubuk Festival, the University of Seoul, the Seoul International Garden Show and other events. The Jamsu Bridge Ttubukttubuk Festival will be held three times, on the 13th and 20th and October 11. The University of Seoul event will run from the 16th to the 18th, while the Seoul International Garden Show will take place from October 24 to 25.
Gangwon State has promoted “Nearby Gangwon” since last year, but determined that one-off events alone had limited potential to change perceptions among metropolitan-area residents. This year, it changed its approach by expanding points of contact with metropolitan residents, including members of Generation MZ, and linking its campaign to existing events that attract large crowds. Rather than organizing separate events, it will set up booths at existing events to reduce costs while reaching more residents.
The promotional booths will offer programs that allow residents to participate directly, including “Nearby Gangwon” quizzes and social media events. The campaign will focus on replacing the vague perception that “Gangwon is far away” with the idea that it is “closer than you think” by providing actual travel times from Seoul to major areas of Gangwon.
Gangwon State will also launch the “Nearby Gangwon” online contest on the 16th. The participatory campaign will invite people to create videos on the theme of “Nearby Gangwon” and share them on social media. The creators of outstanding entries will receive accommodation vouchers for 100 nights at resorts in Gangwon. Detailed participation instructions and the schedule will be announced on the 16th.
Lee Jong-gu, Director of the Construction and Transportation Bureau of Gangwon State, said, "A survey conducted last year found that only around 10% of respondents accurately knew the actual travel time from Seoul to major cities in Gangwon." He added, "We changed our promotional approach to link it with existing event venues in order to expand points of contact with metropolitan-area residents, including members of Generation Z." He continued, "We will continue to convey the actual travel time from Seoul to Gangwon and build awareness that it is closer than people think."
