Busan Metropolitan City Government Wins Minister of the Interior and Safety Award at Local Government AI Best Practices Presentation Contest

[Financial News] Busan Metropolitan City Government announced on the 13th that it won the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award at the 43rd Local Government AI Best Practices Presentation Contest, held from the 10th to the 11th.
MOIS holds the annual contest to share and disseminate outstanding artificial intelligence (AI) and digital initiatives pursued by local governments nationwide and to promote regional innovation in AI and digital administration. This year, eight cases were selected as presentation topics after a preliminary review of 24 outstanding cases submitted by local governments across the country. The final award winners were chosen through expert evaluations and assessments by on-site participants.
At this year's contest, the city presented its “Busan-style AI Service (AI Deputy Officer): Development and Advancement” project. The AI Deputy Officer is a Busan-style AI administrative service that uses generative AI to support a broad range of administrative tasks, including answering questions about administrative knowledge, drafting documents, searching and analyzing external materials, and assisting with budget-related work.
In particular, the service differentiates itself from conventional generative AI services by applying retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), which links internal administrative data with generative AI. When an employee asks a work-related question, the system searches and analyzes relevant administrative materials and generates an answer based on them, enabling employees to find the information they need more quickly and effectively.
The city is also continuously expanding the service beyond simple question-and-answer functions to include document drafting, data searches and analysis, and budget-related tasks. This helps reduce employees' burden from repetitive work. The project received high marks for applying generative AI to actual administrative duties, supporting employees' use of AI, and promoting AI-based administrative innovation.
Heo Nam-sik, director of the city's Administrative Autonomy Bureau, said, "This award recognizes Busan Metropolitan City Government's achievements in actively incorporating artificial intelligence into administration and applying it to actual work." He added, "We will continue to advance the Busan-style artificial intelligence service, improve employees' work efficiency, and develop intelligent administrative services that citizens can experience in their daily lives."
