Jeon Do-yeon congratulates Lee Chang-dong on Venice win: “I hope it gives him great momentum for his next film”

[Financial News] Actress Jeon Do-yeon congratulated director Lee Chang-dong on receiving the Grand Prix at the Venice International Film Festival for Possible Love. This marks the first time a Korean film has won the festival’s Grand Prix.
On the 12th (local time), Jeon Do-yeon said through Netflix, which produced the film, "I hope this award gives you great momentum as you write your next film" and added, "Seeing you receive the award has already made me curious about the film you will show us next."
Jeon Do-yeon and director Lee Chang-dong’s connection began with Miryang
Jeon Do-yeon is carrying out local activities after Possible Love was officially invited to the Special Presentations section of the 51st Toronto International Film Festival. During his acceptance speech, Lee Chang-dong thanked Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung-gu, Zo In-sung and Cho Yeo-jeong, saying, "This award belongs to you."
Jeon Do-yeon and Lee Chang-dong first worked together on the 2007 film Miryang. For the film, Jeon Do-yeon became the first Korean actor to win the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival.
Reuniting with Lee Chang-dong after 19 years for Possible Love, she previously said in an interview, "It felt like a dream that Director Lee Chang-dong was making a film again" and added, "I even told him privately that I wanted to see another film from him."
Possible Love follows Ho-seok (Sul Kyung-gu), a laid-off worker, and his wife Mi-ok (Jeon Do-yeon), as well as documentary filmmaker Ye-ji (Cho Yeo-jeong) and her husband Sang-woo (Zo In-sung), who meet through the production of a documentary and confront their different lives and hidden desires. Jeon Do-yeon plays Mi-ok, who supports the family financially to protect it.
Meanwhile, Lee Chang-dong will also receive the TIFF Ebert Director Award at the TIFF Tribute Awards on the 13th, becoming the first Korean director to receive the honor. Established in memory of American film critic Roger Ebert, the award is presented to directors who have expanded cinema’s horizons through an original vision. Past recipients include Guillermo del Toro, Mike Leigh, Spike Lee, Sam Mendes, Denis Villeneuve and Chloé Zhao.
