Minister Choi Hwi-young Calls Lee Chang-dong “A Great Source of Pride for Korean Cinema,” Congratulating Him on Venice Award

[Financial News] Minister Choi Hwi-young of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism congratulated director Lee Chang-dong on winning the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice International Film Festival, calling it an achievement that will go down in the history of Korean cinema.
At around 6 a.m. on the 13th, Choi posted a message on social media, including Instagram and X, congratulating Lee on winning the award for his new film ‘Possible Love.’ Referring to the achievement Lee secured in Venice, 24 years after ‘Oasis’ in 2002, he wrote, "You have set another great milestone in the history of Korean cinema."
Choi highlighted the director’s "deep artistic spirit, which never stops asking questions," and said Lee’s work had resonated with filmmakers around the world. He also expressed his gratitude to Lee for becoming a source of pride for Korean cinema.
He also congratulated the cast and crew who completed the film with Lee, including actors Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung-gu, Zo In-sung and Cho Yeo-jeong.
Choi also uploaded photos taken when he visited the editing room for ‘Possible Love’ earlier this year and when he met Lee at the ‘Lumière Summit’ in France last week.
‘Possible Love’ won the Grand Jury Prize (Silver Lion) at the closing ceremony of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, held in Venice, Italy, on the 12th local time. It is Lee’s first feature film in eight years since ‘Burning’ (2018).
