[Financial News] A man who said he had never considered marriage because of his modest financial circumstances is reportedly preparing to marry a woman he happened to meet on a rainy day. He said, "I’m not confident about getting married," but his girlfriend reportedly replied, "But I want to marry you."
The story began with a post titled “This Is What Happened to a Man Who Gave Up on Marriage,” uploaded to an online community for office workers on the 9th. The post surpassed 14,000 views within three days of being published.
The author, identified only as Mr. A, introduced himself as a groom-to-be. He said, "I’m getting married this Sunday. I thought I would never get married."
Mr. A said he experienced his parents’ divorce and financial hardship at a young age. From college onward, he paid for his tuition and living expenses himself. Even after finding a job, he lived on what remained after repaying his loans. Because of these circumstances, he said, dating and marriage were difficult for him to consider.
He said his financial situation also weighed on him during blind dates. "I went on a few blind dates, but whenever family or money came up, I felt small for no reason," Mr. A confessed. "I couldn’t even dare to think about marriage. Once I got used to living alone, I figured I would just live this way until the end."
The change began last fall at the National Museum of Korea in Yongsan District, Seoul.
A woman who saw Mr. A sheltering from the rain first suggested that they share her umbrella. They walked together to a subway station, talking along the way, and continued their conversation at a café afterward.
Even after they continued seeing each other, however, Mr. A said he avoided talking about marriage. One day, when he told her, "I’m not confident about getting married," his girlfriend remained silent for a while before replying, "But I want to marry you." Mr. A said, "I kept thinking only about what I didn’t have, but she was looking at me for who I was."
Mr. A also shared how he feels now, with his wedding approaching. "I still don’t have much money saved, and I’m not an extraordinary person," he said. "But now I feel that I’m no longer alone. You never know what life has in store."
Readers who saw the story responded with comments such as, "I shed tears for the first time in a long while while reading this."
