Hope Friend Hunger Countermeasures, an international relief and development NGO, said on the 13th that the Chungju Short-Term Youth Shelter for Boys had donated funds raised through the 2026 Bicycle Hiking Donation Challenge, Season 10.
Eleven teenagers from the shelter took part in the challenge. They cycled approximately 420 kilometers from Chungju to Busan over four days and three nights starting August 17. Dividing the total distance by four days, they covered an average of about 105 kilometers per day.
Launched in 2017 and now in its 10th year, the event connects teenagers’ long-distance cycling challenges with donations from the local community. It combines youth experiential activities with community sponsorship and the support networks of relief organizations.
The donations will be used for scholarships, support for children of missionaries, and facility-improvement projects for teenagers in 10 countries, including South Korea, Nepal, Myanmar, Ethiopia, Jordan, Ukraine, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Togo, and the Philippines.
Choi Chang-nam, president of Hope Friend Hunger Countermeasures, said, "We will responsibly deliver the precious donations created by the teenagers themselves so that they can provide practical support for the growth and independence of their peers in South Korea and abroad."
