Woman Bites Finger of Officer Conducting Breathalyzer Test While Trying to Stop Boyfriend’s Arrest

[Financial News] A woman in her 50s was given a suspended prison sentence after clinging to a police officer to stop the arrest of her boyfriend, who assaulted an officer while being asked to take a breathalyzer test, and biting the officer’s finger. The court noted that she had not been forgiven by the injured officer, but took into account that she admitted to the crime and had no prior convictions for similar offenses.
According to Chuncheon District Court on the 11th, Presiding Judge Go Beom-jin of the Criminal Division 2, sitting alone, sentenced Ms. A, 55, who was indicted on charges of obstruction of official duties and causing bodily injury, to 10 months in prison, suspended for two years. The court also ordered her to complete 80 hours of community service.
The incident occurred in Sokcho in March. Police officers dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of suspected drunk driving asked Ms. A’s boyfriend, Mr. B, to take a breathalyzer test. During the process, Mr. B assaulted a police officer.
When police arrested Mr. B in the act, Ms. A intervened. She grabbed onto Mr. B and clung to him, obstructing the officers’ arrest.
When an officer tried to pull Ms. A away from Mr. B, her actions resulted in an injury. She bit the finger of the officer who was restraining her, and the officer suffered an injury requiring approximately two weeks of treatment.
The court considered it an unfavorable circumstance that Ms. A had not yet been forgiven by the injured officer. However, it imposed a suspended sentence after taking into account that she admitted to all of the charges and had no previous punishment for similar crimes.
