"Show us the Taser," Middle School Student Asked—Officer Pulled the Trigger, Sending Student to Hospital

[Financial News] A police officer who was trying to demonstrate a Taser's functions to middle school students pulled the trigger without realizing that an electrode-probe cartridge was attached, injuring one student. Police plan to investigate the circumstances of the accident through an internal inspection of the officer and determine whether disciplinary action is warranted.
According to Eumseong Police Station on the 11th, at around 4:30 p.m. the previous day, an electrode probe from a Taser activated by Sergeant A became lodged in the thigh of a middle school student in an empty lot in Eumseong County, Chungcheongbuk-do. Investigators found that Sergeant A had been asked by about 10 middle school students nearby to show them the Taser while returning after handling another call.
Sergeant A intended to demonstrate the stun gun function, which produces an electrical stimulus without firing electrode probes. However, an electrode-probe cartridge was attached to the Taser at the time, and Sergeant A pulled the trigger without realizing it.
One of the fired probes struck the thigh of a student standing about 3–4 meters away. The other probe grazed the student's arm. Police said that no current flowed between the two probes.
The student reportedly indicated immediately after the accident that there was no serious problem and went home. The student later complained of pain and was hospitalized for treatment.
The student's parents reportedly presented an account that differed from the police explanation. They are said to have protested that current had flowed through the student's body at the time of the accident and that police had not immediately taken the student to a hospital.
Sergeant A reportedly told investigators that he had not known the electrode probes would be fired. Police plan to conduct an internal inspection of Sergeant A to determine the exact circumstances of the accident and investigate whether disciplinary action is warranted.
