Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) recorded an all-time high competition rate of 22.05 to 1 for its 2027 early admissions. In the essay-based admissions track, applicants were concentrated in the Language & AI Convergence Division and the College of AI Convergence, with both recording rates exceeding 160 to 1.
HUFS announced on the 11th that 46,353 applicants applied for 2,102 places after the application period for its 2027 early admissions closed.
By admissions track, the essay-based track recorded the highest competition rate at 66.35 to 1, rising sharply from 51.11 to 1 last year. The interview-based comprehensive school-record admissions track recorded 14.16 to 1, followed by the document-based track at 8.68 to 1, the school principal recommendation track at 7.91 to 1, the equal-opportunity track at 7.57 to 1, and the SW talent comprehensive school-record admissions track at 5.97 to 1.
Competition rates for the school principal recommendation track, the interview-based and document-based comprehensive school-record admissions tracks, and the essay-based track all increased from last year. The sharp influx of applicants into the essay-based track was the main factor behind the rise in the overall early-admissions competition rate.
The admissions unit with the highest competition rate was the Language & AI Convergence Division under the essay-based track. A total of 827 applicants competed for five places, producing a rate of 165.40 to 1. The division has recorded the highest competition rate in HUFS early admissions for four consecutive years.
The integrated admissions process for the College of AI Convergence at Seoul Campus also recorded a rate of 164.33 to 1, with 986 applicants competing for six places.
Applicants also flocked to Songdo Campus, which recruited its first freshmen this year. The Global Bio & Business Convergence Division offered 15 places through the document-based comprehensive school-record admissions track, attracting 287 applicants and recording a competition rate of 19.13 to 1.
Beginning with the 2027 academic year, HUFS will operate Songdo Campus as a new educational hub. The university plans to expand convergence education combining biotechnology and business based on global competencies.
The first-round successful applicants for the interview-based comprehensive school-record admissions track will be announced on November 16. Interviews will be held on November 21–22, and essay examinations will take place on November 28–29. Regardless of the admissions unit, both the interviews and essay examinations will be held at Seoul Campus.
