[Financial News] Choi Jun-hee, the daughter of the late Choi Jin-sil, revealed on social media that she had overeaten and consumed alcohol late at night. Eating large amounts of food together with alcohol late at night can lead to gastroesophageal reflux, poorer sleep, and blood sugar fluctuations, making it important to restore a regular eating rhythm.
On the 11th, Choi Jun-hee posted a short video on her Instagram Story along with a list of the foods she had eaten in the early morning. The video showed the leftover plates after the meal and Choi Jun-hee looking at the camera.
She wrote, "At 1:04 a.m.: four bottles of soju, grilled fish, rice cooked in a pot with aster greens, grilled tilefish, matcha basque cheesecake, grilled hagfish, chive pancakes, seasoned cockles, raw seafood, LA-style short ribs, bulgogi, cheese lobster, corn cheese, gimbap, tteokbokki, Chapagetti, handmade dumplings, ice cream, Jjareureu, crab-flavored sticks, and Levain cookies—and now here I am, feeling a reality check after stuffing myself with all that."
Choi Jun-hee previously said that her weight had risen to 96 kilograms while she was battling lupus. She later became known for losing weight to the 40-kilogram range through diet management and exercise. Even after losing weight, she has continued to share her daily life, physical condition, and efforts to manage her meals on social media.
Overeating and drinking late at night can place additional strain on the digestive system. The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency’s National Health Information Portal lists overeating, lying down immediately after a meal or late-night snack, excessive consumption of fatty foods, drinking, and smoking as factors associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease. Preventive and management measures include avoiding lying down within two to three hours after eating, reducing overeating, late-night snacks, and fatty foods, and refraining from alcohol.
Sleep can also be affected. In its health information on alcohol-related problems, the portal explains that alcohol may initially make it feel easier to fall asleep, but the process of metabolizing alcohol can cause alertness and reduce sleep quality. This is also related to the severe fatigue, heartburn, and thirst that can occur the next day after overeating and drinking.
However, eating a large amount on one occasion cannot immediately be classified as a medical problem. The National Institute of Mental Health describes binge-eating disorder as a condition involving repeated episodes of eating large amounts of food, a loss of control, and significant distress related to eating behavior. Temporary overeating should be distinguished from a recurring binge-eating problem.
It is also important to avoid immediately starving oneself or exercising excessively after binge eating. Severe food restriction can lead to intense hunger again. Experts advise drinking plenty of water after overeating and, rather than skipping the next meal, eating regular meals that include protein, vegetables, and complex carbohydrates.
