Hanyang University Professor Ryu Geun Named an Associate Fellow of U.S. Aerospace Society

[Financial News] A South Korean researcher has joined the elite group of experts representing roughly the top 1% of the world's most prestigious aerospace academic organization.
Hanyang University ERICA announced on the 11th that Professor Ryu Geun of its Department of Mechanical Engineering, who also serves as the head of the aerospace engineering major in the Graduate School, had been selected as an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the world's largest aerospace academic organization.
AIAA Associate Fellow status is awarded only to experts who have accumulated at least 12 years of professional experience in the aerospace field and demonstrated technological advancement and leadership. The selection standards are highly rigorous, with only one member chosen for every 150 voting members of the institute, or approximately 0.6%.
Professor Ryu is an expert in rotordynamics, a field that controls vibrations and maintains stability so that the "heart of a machine," such as an aircraft engine or gas turbine, does not shake or break apart when rotating at extremely high speeds. He was highly recognized for his longstanding research and contributions to academic development in key components, including engine shafts and bearings, which must withstand extreme speeds and rotation.
Professor Ryu currently chairs the institute's Gas Turbine Engine Technical Committee. He also demonstrates international research leadership by planning and managing international academic programs in turbomachinery.
Professor Ryu is scheduled to attend the 2027 AIAA SciTech Forum, the world's largest aerospace research forum, in Orlando, Florida, on January 13 next year, where he will receive his certificate.
