[Financial News] Cheong Wa Dae indicated on the 11th that it wants Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae to swiftly proceed with the procedure for re-nominating a Supreme Court justice candidate.
During a question-and-answer session at a briefing held that day at the Chunchugwan Press Center at the Blue House, Kang Yoo-jung, chief spokesperson for Cheong Wa Dae, said, "Cheong Wa Dae is making every effort to ensure that there are no obstacles to the public’s full exercise of the right to seek a trial."
She added, "We also hope that the Chief Justice will respect the recommendation of the Supreme Court Justice Nomination Committee and proceed with the re-nomination as swiftly as possible, so that the public’s right to a trial is not infringed upon by the prolonged vacancy of a Supreme Court justice position."
Earlier, on the 28th of last month, Cheong Wa Dae decided not to submit to the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea a confirmation motion for Judge Son Bong-gi of the Daegu District Court, whom Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae had nominated to succeed former Supreme Court Justice Rho Tae-ak. The decision was made because the nomination did not sufficiently meet procedural requirements. Cheong Wa Dae also asked the Chief Justice to respect the recommendation of the existing Supreme Court Justice Nomination Committee and re-nominate a candidate for Supreme Court justice.
