Cheong Wa Dae on Controversy Surrounding Yong Hye-in: "She Should Have an Opportunity to Explain Herself to the Public... There Was No Consultation on the Press Conference"

[Financial News] Cheong Wa Dae said on the 11th, regarding the controversy surrounding Yong Hye-in, the nominee for minister of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, that "it is Cheong Wa Dae's position that she should be given an opportunity to explain the matter to the public."
Kang Yoo-jung, senior spokesperson for Cheong Wa Dae, made the remarks at a briefing at the Chunchugwan Press Center at the Blue House in response to a question asking whether the possibility of withdrawing Yong's nomination remained open.
She also said, "Cheong Wa Dae is always listening closely to the voices of the public," adding, "It has been Cheong Wa Dae's position all along that the nominee should have an opportunity to explain herself to the public, and that position remains unchanged." However, Kang emphasized, "We remain open to and are listening to the diverse voices of the public."
Kang explained that Yong's press conference the previous day, at which she rebutted the allegations raised against her, had not been separately coordinated with Cheong Wa Dae and was unrelated to President Lee Jae Myung's state visit to France.
Regarding Kim Min-seok, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, describing the appointment of Kim Seung-won as nominee for minister of the Ministry of Justice as a good personnel decision, she said, "I have nothing further to say about the leader's remarks."
Addressing concerns about Cheong Wa Dae's personnel vetting, she explained, "Although it is difficult to discuss the specific vetting process in detail, the Lee Jae Myung administration finalizes appointments through its personnel system under the responsibility of the chair of the personnel committee." She added, "We are improving the personnel system so that it meets the public's expectations, and we will continue to strengthen it."
