[Financial News] Cheong Wa Dae said it is reviewing how government information concerning the consideration of a troop deployment to the Strait of Hormuz was disclosed to the media.
At a question-and-answer session held at the Chunchugwan Press Center at the Blue House on the 11th, senior spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung made the remarks in response to reports that the Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs Office had launched an inspection over reports related to a deployment to the Strait of Hormuz. She said, “Information related to the military, diplomacy, and national security is a highly sensitive security matter.”
Kang said, “If leaked, this is important information that could have a serious impact on national security and the national interest, and could even adversely affect them.” She added, “In accordance with relevant laws and regulations, Cheong Wa Dae is conducting a rigorous review of leaks involving undisclosed military, diplomatic, and national security information whose release has not been authorized.”
Earlier, senior secretary for public relations and communications Seong Gi-hong appeared on the YouTube channel Maebul Show on the 9th and stressed, “With the government’s policy not yet finally decided, discussions from each department at the working level have been leaking out, causing the debate to develop through reports that have gotten far ahead of the facts.”
Seong said, “The president bears final responsibility for decision-making, and everything will be discussed at the National Security Council (NSC).” He explained, “Various opinions from each level will be gathered and unified into a single position, but fragmented discussions leaked out before that position had reached the top level.” Regarding the United States’ request for a deployment to the Strait of Hormuz, Seong stated, “The government has not yet made a final decision on its policy and is considering the matter carefully.”
