[Financial News] LG AI Research and the National Pension Service (NPS) will use artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the expertise and efficiency of pension fund management. After first developing an AI service that analyzes exchange-rate fluctuations, the two organizations plan to expand its application to investment research and decision-making overall.
LG AI Research and the NPS signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the 11th at LG AI Research’s headquarters in Magok, Seoul, to jointly develop AI specialized in fund management.
Kang Chang-nam, head of the support division at National Pension Service Investment Management, and Lee Hwa-young, head of business development at LG AI Research, attended the signing ceremony, among others.
The significance of this collaboration lies in using generative AI not merely for information searches, but as a tool to support actual fund-management analysis and investment decisions.
The two sides will combine LG AI Research’s AI capabilities with the NPS’s investment expertise to build AI services specialized for fund-management operations. As their first joint project, they will develop an AI-based exchange-rate analysis service that forecasts and analyzes exchange-rate fluctuations by integrating various economic indicators and market information.
LG AI Research plans to build a model based on its financial AI agent, EXAONE BI, to analyze macroeconomic indicators, news, research materials and other unstructured market information, along with data from the NPS.
EXAONE BI is currently applied to services provided by London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), Koscom and KIWOOM Securities, analyzing more than 8,000 stocks listed in South Korea and the United States every day. It also provides stock-specific forecast scores and analytical commentary at the level of financial experts. LG AI Research is also pursuing related collaborations with global investment institutions, including Canada’s national pension plan.
The NPS plans to first verify the potential uses of the exchange-rate analysis service and then expand AI applications to areas such as investment research and decision-making support. Through this effort, it aims to enhance the expertise and efficiency of investment decisions and improve long-term investment returns.
Kang Chang-nam said, "The National Pension Service Investment Management division, which is responsible for the future of the people, will also keep pace with change and use AI to enhance the expertise and efficiency of fund management."
Lee Hwa-young stated, "LG AI Research’s financial AI capabilities have been recognized by numerous global investors," adding, "We will create a model case for leading the use of AI in the public sector."
