China-Led International Alliance Against Voice Phishing Launched

[Financial News] An international organization to jointly combat voice phishing and online fraud has been launched under China's leadership.
According to Xinhua News Agency on the 11th, the founding general assembly of the International Alliance for Combating Telecommunications and Internet Fraud was held the previous day in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province.
Representatives from 46 founding countries, including Vietnam, Laos, Kenya, Cambodia, Pakistan and Russia, as well as 34 observer countries, attended the organization proposed by China. Four international organizations, including the United Nations (UN) and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), also participated.
In a joint statement, the participating countries said, "Telecommunications and internet fraud is emerging as a global public menace," adding, "We will establish an intergovernmental international organization to jointly respond to related crimes and play an active role in protecting the safety and lawful rights and interests of people and businesses in each country."
China has previously worked with Southeast Asian countries, including Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand, to successively repatriate Chinese members of fraud organizations operating overseas. In January, China also brought Chen Zhi, the founder of Prince Holding Group who was suspected of involvement in human trafficking and voice phishing, to China in cooperation with Cambodian authorities.
China's launch of an organization for international cooperation against crime is seen as part of its efforts to establish a new international order centered on itself. The United States is reportedly urging its partner countries, including South Korea, not to join the organization, which has 29 participating countries.
