Inha University Discusses Development Directions for Incheon e-eum as a Local Circular Economy Platform

【Financial News Incheon = Reporter Han Gap-su】 Inha University will discuss ways to develop Incheon e-eum, a local currency in Incheon, into a local circular economy platform that connects consumption, production and investment within the region, moving beyond cashback.
Inha University announced on the 11th that it will hold the 7th Public Forum of the Inha Incheon Future Design Forum on the 15th in Room 112 of the 60th Anniversary Memorial Hall (INHA Creative Space).
The forum will focus on the theme, "Incheon e-eum: Beyond Cashback to a Local Circular Economy Platform—How Can We Build a Local Circular Economy?" Citizens, small business owners, academics and government officials will participate to explore ways to operate Incheon e-eum sustainably and revitalize the local economy.
With Incheon e-eum cashback temporarily suspended in July due to the city government's fiscal conditions, a key agenda item will be how to create a structure in which income and consumption generated locally lead to sales and investment for local businesses, rather than focusing solely on the size of cashback support. Incheon Metropolitan City Government plans to resume cashback payments on the 21st if the supplementary budget proposal passes the city council.
Yang Jun-ho, a professor of economics at Incheon National University, and Kim Min-cheol, head of the Gyeonggi-do Market Revitalization Agency, will deliver presentations. Professor Yang will propose ways to develop Incheon e-eum beyond consumer support into public infrastructure linking purchasing, finance and data, thereby strengthening the region's "economic self-determination."
Drawing on his experience operating local currencies in Gyeonggi Province, Kim will introduce cases such as the "Gyeonggi Revitalization Big Sale" and "Gyeonggi Baro," a comprehensive support platform for small business owners. He will also propose policy applications for Incheon e-eum.
Eight representatives from various fields, including merchants, civil society, the operating company, the city council and the administration, will then participate in a designated discussion on the future direction of Incheon e-eum.
An official from the Inha University Regional Cooperation Center said, "We hope this forum will become a public policy forum that goes beyond the cashback debate and strengthens Incheon's economic self-determination."
