[Financial News] Shinsegae Property carried out its second mutual-growth project at Anseongmatchum Market. The company said that, following support for individual stores in 2021, it has expanded the scope of this project to include developing key stores, utilizing vacant spaces and improving the market environment.
According to industry sources on the 11th, Starfield Anseong carried out the “Anseongmatchum Market Revitalization Project” this year with the Korea Commission for Corporate Partnership under the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. In 2021, the project supported nine stores with startup assistance, recipe development, branding and interior improvements. This year, the focus shifted to enhancing the market’s overall ability to attract visitors and expanding its customer base.
Four stores were first selected as key stores: the seonji haejangguk restaurant “Anseongjip,” bakery café “Naui Ohu,” gomtang restaurant “Baekdondang” and Japanese rice-bowl restaurant “Aotsuki.” Some stores received improvements to their spaces and branding, while chefs Jang In-woo and Shin Dong-min participated in menu development and operations consulting for Baekdondang and Aotsuki.
A food-and-beverage (F&B) concept store called “Anseong Jeongi” was created in a vacant space in the market. During the day, it serves dishes featuring ugeoji dakgaejang, while in the evening it offers menus featuring rotisserie chicken. The store will operate as a visitor-attraction hub for nearby office workers and younger customers. A shared kitchen will also be installed inside the store for vendors who may participate in future night markets.
Improvements to the market’s shared environment are also under way. Shinsegae Property plans to upgrade the nighttime lighting as well as pedestrian areas and common spaces by the end of this month in consultation with the vendors.
Ko Se-young, chairman of the Anseongmatchum Market Vendors’ Association, said, “This project is meaningful because it develops stores with potential into anchor stores and creates reasons for people to deliberately visit the market. It is important not to stop at creating a few successful stores, but to ensure that they have a positive impact on the market as a whole.”
