The drill was organized to strengthen the self-defense firefighting brigade’s initial response capabilities and employees’ evacuation skills in the event of a fire, while also checking the workplace safety management system to ensure a swift response in an actual emergency.
Employees of group companies located in the headquarters, including Dong-A Socio Holdings, Dong-A ST, Dong-A Pharmaceutical, DAI and Dong-A Otsuka, as well as members of resident partner companies, participated in the drill.
Dong-A Socio Group designated one floor of its headquarters as the simulated fire floor and conducted the drill under conditions modeled on an actual emergency. Elevator operations were suspended during the drill, and participants also carried out initial fire extinguishing exercises using simulated flames and smoke fire extinguishers.
On the simulated fire floor, the self-defense firefighting brigade’s emergency communications team, initial fire extinguishing team and evacuation guidance team were each assigned responsibility for relaying information, extinguishing the fire initially and guiding evacuations. Employees moved to the emergency assembly area under the guidance of the evacuation team. In each floor’s evacuation zone, participants also checked for anyone who had not evacuated and reported the results to the command and control team.
An evacuation drill was also conducted to reduce injuries caused by smoke inhalation during a fire. Employees and partner-company members were given handkerchiefs for use during fire evacuations and instructed on how to use them properly while evacuating.
Officials from Dongdaemun Fire Station’s Yongdu 119 Safety Center also attended the site and monitored the entire drill. They examined whether each stage of the response—from relaying information about the fire and initial fire extinguishing to evacuation guidance and confirming the number of people at the emergency assembly area—was carried out appropriately. After the drill, they provided guidance on the self-defense firefighting brigade’s roles, initial response procedures and precautions during evacuation.
An official from Dong-A Socio Group said, "This was a practical drill conducted in line with actual response procedures, covering everything from emergency communications and initial fire extinguishing to evacuation guidance and confirming the number of people, rather than being merely an educational exercise." The official added, "We will continue working to strengthen employees’ emergency response capabilities through practical fire evacuation drills and to create a safe workplace."
