Former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was accused of appointing former Defense Minister Jongseop Lee as ambassador to Australia and sending him abroad to help him evade an investigation, was acquitted at first instance.

The 22nd Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court, presided over by Chief Judge Cho Hyung-woo, acquitted former President Yoon Suk Yeol on the 11th of charges including harboring a criminal and abuse of authority obstructing the exercise of rights.

Former National Intelligence Service Director Cho Tae-yong and former Office of National Security Director Jang Ho-jin, who were indicted together, were also acquitted.
