According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) on the 11th, Minister Choi Hwi-young presented the letter of appointment to Eo Yeon-seon, the newly appointed director and artistic director, at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul, in Jongno-gu, Seoul. The term of office is three years.
Eo Yeon-seon graduated from the Department of Korean Language and Literature at Duksung Women's University and received a master's degree in theater arts from the Graduate School of Culture and Arts at Dongguk University. She previously served as head of the Performance Planning Team and deputy director of the Arts Group Cooperation Team at Sejong Center, representative of the theater company 'Hyun Jang,' and CEO of the Gwangmyeong Culture Foundation.
The National Theater Company of Korea for Young Audiences was launched in 2011 as the Children and Youth Research Institute within the National Theater Company of Korea. Last year, it was separated and reorganized as an independent theater company as the need grew to enhance expertise in producing and researching and developing performances for children and young audiences and to strengthen cooperation with schools and local communities.
Since becoming independent, expanding its performance production and research and development capabilities into schools and local communities has effectively become the new director's main task.
Minister Choi stated, "I expect the newly appointed director and artistic director to lead the growth of the National Theater Company of Korea for Young Audiences by developing outstanding plays for children and young people and revitalizing the theater ecosystem, based on the field experience and expertise accumulated over the years."
