Kia Supplies Korea Post with 200 Customized Electric PBVs, the PV5

[Financial News] Kia is leading the electrification of public mobility by deploying customized purpose-built vehicles (PBVs) optimized for postal delivery operations nationwide. Beyond simply supplying vehicles, the company aims to strengthen its position in the commercial electric vehicle market by providing an integrated solution covering customized vehicle design, charging, and maintenance, all based on delivery workers’ actual routes and requirements.
Kia announced on the 11th that it will supply Korea Post with the Kia PV5 Cargo, a customized PBV designed to reflect the characteristics of postal collection and delivery work. Starting this month, 200 vehicles will be deployed sequentially at post offices nationwide.
The Kia PV5 Cargo being delivered to Korea Post was developed on Kia’s dedicated PBV electrification platform, E-GMP.S (Electric-Global Modular Platform for Service). Its low-floor design minimizes physical strain on workers who get in and out of the vehicle dozens of times a day. The vehicle also comes standard with an Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) to enhance driving safety. From the development stage, Kia focused on maximizing convenience for users in the field. For two months beginning in September last year, the company conducted preliminary testing by deploying vehicles at hub post offices under nine regional postal offices nationwide. Feedback from postal workers’ loading and unloading tests and work-suitability evaluations was immediately incorporated into the production vehicles through customized cargo-loading solutions, including measures to prevent door damage, an aluminum cargo floor, and a leveled cargo area.
Kia said it will continue supporting Korea Post’s smooth operation of electric vehicles after delivery. Its support will cover the full electrification process, including EV training for vehicle managers and the establishment of customized charging and maintenance infrastructure.
An official from Kia’s Domestic Business Division said, "This is an example of creating a PBV precisely suited to the job by actively reflecting feedback from actual delivery sites." The official added, "We will continue supporting improvements to working conditions and electrification at public service sites."
