'The Phantom of the Opera' Marks 40th Anniversary with Korean-Language Production in Seoul This December... "Cast to Be Announced Later"

[Financial News] The musical 'The Phantom of the Opera' is coming to Seoul to mark the 40th anniversary of its global premiere. The Korean-language production will run at Blue Square in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, from December 22 through February 28, 2027.
According to S&Co on the 11th, the production will commemorate both the musical's 40th global anniversary and the 25th anniversary of its Korean premiere. It will run in Seoul for about two months. The Korean-language production has been staged three times since its premiere in 2001.
'The Phantom of the Opera' has been performed in 23 languages across 217 cities in 52 countries worldwide, drawing a cumulative audience of 160 million. In South Korea, cumulative attendance surpassed 1 million in 2012 and 1.5 million in 2023.
The musical tells the story of the love among the Phantom, Christine, and Raoul, who live amid the underground world of the Paris Opera House. It has long been beloved for Andrew Lloyd Webber's music and lavish stage design, including a massive chandelier and an underground lake.
Producer Shin Dong-won said, "This is a meaningful production that coincides with the 40th anniversary of the global premiere and the 25th anniversary of the Korean premiere. We will prepare so that we can celebrate these milestones with Korean audiences."
Clip Service, which is handling publicity and marketing, said, "The casting of the actors who will take part in this meaningful production will be announced later."
