"Most Laver Seeding Expected in Early to Mid-October"

[Financial News] The National Institute of Fisheries Science (NIFS) said that, based on a comprehensive analysis of water-temperature data and this year’s temperature changes, the suitable timing for laver seeding in most sea areas is expected to be from early to mid-October. Wakame nursery transplantation is expected in mid- to late October, followed by main cultivation from late October to early November.
The NIFS Seaweed Research Institute forecast on the 11th the suitable periods for seeding laver for the 2027 harvest, as well as for wakame nursery transplantation and main cultivation. Surface-water temperatures in Korean waters are expected to be higher than normal this September. Accordingly, if the seasonal decline in water temperatures is delayed, the actual suitable aquaculture periods could also be pushed back somewhat.
NIFS advised that final work schedules should be determined flexibly, taking into account water temperatures, tidal conditions, and other local circumstances in each sea area. Soonwook Kwon, director of NIFS, said, "Water temperatures are expected to remain high through the fall this year, so it is important to check marine-environment observation data," adding, "We will provide all the technical support we can to ensure stable production of laver and wakame."
