“Even Tourists with Access Needs Can Enjoy the Sea”: Busan Tourism Organization Operates Water Wheelchairs

[Financial News] A tourism initiative designed to help people with limited mobility enjoy the waters off Busan is drawing attention.
Busan Tourism Organization (BTO) announced on the 11th that it operated the “2026 Modi Inclusive Tourism Planning Project: Water Wheelchair Experience Program” at Busan Songdo Beach from the 8th to the 10th for tourists with access needs and their caregivers.
The program was organized by BTO to expand access to marine tourism and opportunities for tourists with access needs to enjoy related activities. In particular, it provided opportunities for beach walks and sea activities using water wheelchairs at Busan Songdo Beach, where a barrier-free tourism environment has been established to improve accessibility.
Participants chose either a beach walk or a sea activity according to their individual needs and preferences. On-site safety measures were also implemented, including safety briefings and the assignment of assistance staff to each session.
Grab the Ocean Songdo Hotel also supported the smooth operation of the program. It provided a waiting area, shower and changing facilities, and towels so participants could comfortably prepare for and finish the activity, as well as a storage area for the water wheelchairs.
A BTO official said, “The water wheelchair experience gave tourists with access needs an opportunity to enjoy Busan’s sea from closer up.” The official added, “We will continue to identify a variety of tourism experiences that reflect the characteristics and needs of tourists with access needs.”
