Jeju National University and Sangmyung University Link Credits, International Students, and Industry-Academia Research to Expand Inter-University Exchange

[Financial News Jeju = Reporter Jeong Yong-bok] JNU and Sangmyung University are expanding the scope of their cooperation from student exchange and mutual credit recognition to attracting international students and industry-academia collaborative research. This approach goes beyond mere personnel exchange between the universities to connect education, internationalization, government-funded projects, and research into a single cooperative system.
According to JNU on the 11th, JNU and Sangmyung University signed a business agreement for mutual cooperation, including student exchange, at the reception room on the fourth floor of the JNU Industry-Academic Cooperation Center the previous day.
The signing ceremony was attended by JNU President Yang Deok-soon, Director of International Exchange Wonseob Song, Ouk, head of the RISE Project Group, and Chief of Staff Kang Dong-ho. From Sangmyung University, President Kim, Chonghee, Vice President for Industry-Academia Collaboration Choi Eun-jung, Dean of Planning Kim Tae-han, Dean of Student Affairs Jeong Dong-hwa, and Chief of Staff Park Gyeong-rak were present.
The first pillar of the cooperation is student and credit exchange. The two universities have agreed to expand exchanges to enable students to utilize each other's curricula and to cooperate on the mutual recognition of credits for online and offline courses.
The intention is to expand the foundation for the joint utilization of educational resources across universities by including online education, not just face-to-face classes, within the scope of credit exchange.
They will also jointly promote the recruitment of international students and international exchange. The two universities will link international student-related programs and pursue measures to mutually recognize credits earned through international exchange courses.
As JNU has recently been expanding the recruitment of international students through regular exchange programs, the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS), and Korean language courses, credit and student exchanges with other universities can be utilized as a foundation for diversifying internationalization programs.
The scope of cooperation extends to government-funded projects and industry-academia collaborative research. Both universities have agreed to share the achievements and operational experience accumulated during the implementation of government-funded projects and to engage in research exchanges in the field of industry-academia collaboration. This effectively establishes a channel for cooperation where researchers and industry-academia collaboration organizations from each university can identify joint projects or share project outcomes.
In particular, with the JNU RISE Project Group and Sangmyung University's industry-academia cooperation organization participating in the agreement, the possibility of linking regional innovation and industry-academia cooperation projects in the future has also been opened.
JNU President Yang Deok-soon said, "Through this agreement, we will establish an exchange and cooperation system between the two universities and develop together in the fields of education, industry-academia cooperation, and international exchange."
