LG AI Research and the NPS signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the 11th at LG AI Research’s headquarters in Magok, Seoul, to jointly develop AI services specialized in fund management. The signing ceremony was attended by Kang Chang-nam, head of the support division at the NPS’s Fund Management Division, and Lee Hwa-young, head of business development at LG AI Research, among others.
The two sides plan to build AI services specialized in fund management by combining LG AI Research’s AI capabilities with the NPS’s investment expertise. Their first project is an “AI-based exchange-rate analysis service.” Using its financial AI agent, EXAONE Business Intelligence (EXAONE BI), LG AI Research will develop AI-based forecasting and analysis models that examine the NPS’s data along with unstructured market information, including various macroeconomic indicators, news, and research materials.
EXAONE BI is currently used in services provided by London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), Koscom, and KIWOOM Securities, analyzing more than 8,000 stocks listed in South Korea and the United States every day. Its key features include providing stock-specific forecast scores and analytical commentary at the level of financial experts. LG AI Research is also pursuing related cooperation with global investment institutions, including the Canada Pension Plan.
The NPS plans to introduce AI into its investment research and decision-making processes to enhance the expertise and efficiency of its investment judgments and improve long-term investment returns. After first verifying the potential uses of the exchange-rate analysis service, it will gradually expand AI applications to areas where the technology can be used in actual fund management operations.
The two sides plan to make reliability and safety their top priorities throughout the AI adoption process and develop the project into a leading model for the use of AI in the public sector.
Lee said, “LG AI Research’s financial AI capabilities have already been recognized by numerous global investors. We will create a model case that leads the use of AI in the public sector.”
