"Choi Seung-ho, Samsung union chief, reported to police over contract with father-in-law's company"

[Financial News] Choi Seung-ho, chairman of the Samsung Electronics United Labor Union, has been reported to police amid allegations of "family favoritism" after purchasing items such as rally vests from a company run by his father-in-law.
On the 10th, the Committee for the Protection of Ordinary People's Livelihood said it had reported Choi to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on suspicion of breach of trust and obstruction of business, among other charges. The committee explained its reason for the complaint, saying, "Given Choi's position, he should have excluded the family-owned company and selected a vendor in a fair and reasonable manner."
Choi came under fire after it was revealed that, while preparing rally supplies such as vests during the activities of the Joint Struggle Headquarters, he had signed a contract worth 370 million won with Company A, whose representative is his father-in-law.
As the controversy grew, Choi acknowledged that he had contracted with his father-in-law's company. However, he explained that the order for the vests was placed after comparing quotations and delivery terms from multiple companies and taking the delivery schedule into account.
The National Samsung Electronics Union said it had not known that the company belonged to Choi's father-in-law, adding, "Choi's explanation that the NSEU also knew about it is completely unfounded." Donghaeng Union also issued a separate statement that day, denying that it had been informed of or was aware of the allegations in advance.
Some union members are reportedly preparing a lawsuit, objecting to the fact that union dues they paid were given to a company connected to the chairman's family.
Meanwhile, Choi was also referred to prosecutors on the 4th on suspicion of unlawfully obtaining personal information belonging to Samsung Electronics employees and using it to create a union blacklist.
